Counseling Dispositions
Psychological Fitness
My mental capacity to hold space for high tense situations or responsibilities has grown since being in the program in a way that I am able to contextualize situations or needs in a moment and process through what steps are needed to improve the situation while focusing on my mental health as well.
Cultural Diversity
Completing my clincal counseling program has helped me pause and reflect on my thought process of stereotypes and biases that I may have carried in my personal life that could potentially box clients in. I practice in a manner of respecting autonomy and personal identity of my clients.
Genuineness
Looking at something with the desire for a full understanding makes me look for the genuineness in a situation, a lesson or a person
Flexibility
Not to be confused with disregarding boundaries, but I have learned how use my time effectively which can benefit my practice and professional time
Professional Identity
Looking back over the time since I started my program, I am so proud of the person I have developed into during my time at GCU. My confidence in research, networking, case development has grown so much since the beginning, and I feel as though I am more involved in my career development than I thought possible in the beginning. I am proud of the practice I am set to develop.
Self-Awareness
I have the awareness to provide myself pace to contextualize what my role looks like in treatment and what my needs look like as a human as well in order to provide well-prepared services.
Patience
Patience is a pillar of my practice. Being attentive to the details of academic benchmarks towards licensure, working towards these benchmarks in excellence and studying theories and cases of clients that require time and patience of work.
Empathy
Each one of us is deserving of respect, compassion and opportunity to be known.
Amiability
My wanting to become a Professional Counselor started long before I joined my Master’s program. It has been a goal of mine from a young age. A core truth of mine is that every person deserves a space to feel supported and cared for. It is a driving force of my academic drive as well as my personal morals with the people around me
Acceptance
I think this program has helped me to understand that there is a difference between understanding and accepting of the things and people around you. Taking on a clinical perspective I have learned what it looks like being a person who is understanding of lived experiences while being aware of how much acceptance is healthy and how to show that support in a way that supports autonomy.
